Precious was found on a highway in New Jersey, and taken to a vet, then temporarily adopted by a friend of mine. Honestly, I had no intentions of having a cat, since the last one we adopted was vicious and had to be returned. Then I saw her picture at three weeks old. Bottle fed. Blue eyes of course, she was a little ball of black and brown fluff. A furball that looked so longingly at me. After many conversations and pictures we agreed to get her. Now almost four years old (July 13th is when the vet and I declared her birthday), she is my lifeline and best friend.
Precious drinks water from our kitchen sink. She loves running water. I have a video of her drinking. She also prefers a clean sink to drink out of, without any dishes in it. A true precious princess. She isn't a lap cat, but will sleep on the bed with one of us, and enjoys being groomed. Similar to a three-year-old, she prefers objects as toys that aren't her toys. Index cards are one of her favorites, or any kind of paper.
What makes her unique, perhaps, is her ability to allow my 13-year-old son with autism, to put her in the cage easily or pick her up. When he has been ill, she stays right near his head. She seems to understand he needs her, and that relationship is priceless. They have a love and connection no one else has, and it's beautiful.
Precious also keeps me company, and alerts me of any sounds or noises that require me to follow her. When I receive my IV medicine at home for my Multiple Sclerosis, she stays right next to the pole and doesn't leave my side. The cat that I initially didn't know or want has become my everything. She has given hope at times that have been very frustrating for us, and I am eternally grateful!
To all cat owners, we share a bond; similar to my son's bond with Precious. I am blessed to have her here in Elmont, (Long Island, Queens border) New York!
