Maxwell the Persian, the Cat of the Day
Name: Maxwell
Age: Seven years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Persian
Home: Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Maxwell came into my life from Viran Persians, in Atlanta, Georgia. A very lovely lady named Vicki introduced me to Maxwell, who at the time was a tiny kitten, the veritable runt of the litter. He has grown over time to be a healthy and truly amazing cat, living a life full of adventure and providing me with love, laughter and a reason to get up each and every day with purpose.

Our first home was a tiny little apartment. During our year there, he survived the following escapades: jumping off our second-floor balcony, swimming in the bathtub because it looked like a good thing to do at the time and spending a few cold hours in the refrigerator. I spent a few minutes ransacking the kitchen to find out where the tiny angry-sounding meows were coming from, and needless to say, the fridge was the last place I looked. His most astonishing feat, though, was a hair-raising (for me) though miraculously not singeing (for him) trip into the fireplace. A cold winter's night found me comfortably sat looking at a cozy fire. Maxwell walked in the right side of the fireplace, across the back behind the logs, and exited on the left hand side. He merely felt a need to explore this new thing called Fire. Needless to say the fireplace got a new cat-proof screen the next day!

Our second home was a more spacious one, and he found lots of joy watching the flora and fauna through the sunroom windows, looking out over a lake. As he grew older and wiser, his communication skills improved in tandem. He does one thing I find completely amazing, and that is to bring me a sock in his tiny mouth whenever something is amiss. He does not bring the sock unless it is truly important, either to him or to me.

Over the years, he has lived on and off with other cats, but has finally managed to convince me he prefers to be The One and Only Cat in the household. We now live in the home I grew up in, and he is convinced that he has finally found a place he wants to stay. He meanders upstairs and downstairs, and naps in rotation in five different bedrooms, either on its bed or a bedside chair. His favorite place, though, is the living room, and he elegantly reposes there as if it were so carefully decorated to meet his discriminating tastes.

He is favorably disposed to all visitors and has patiently allowed many a small child to rough house with him and even pull him backwards by his tail. Somehow he knows they only mean to have fun, not to bother him.

My favorite times with him are as I go to sleep at night, when he lays on his side of the bed and gently purrs me to sleep, and when I wake up, and follow him as he languorously stretches on the way to having his water and food refreshed. And truly just looking into his deep golden eyes, and his company as we watch movies or I read a book, are enough to let me know I have the most wonderful cat.

This message was reviewed and edited by Maxwell and he approves its publication. (grin)
