Cody the Tabby, the Cat of the Day
Name: Cody
Age: Twelve years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Tabby
Home: Arlington, Washington, USA

Cody's story begins in Virginia where he was rescued from the Humane Society at three months old. I was attracted to his sweet, observant nature and his raccoon tail. As a kitten he was very energetic and his favorite pastime was watching TV. He would sit next to me like a human - legs stretched out in front and his belly sticking out.

When he was a few years old, I moved across country to Washington. Cody survived the week-long drive with such an adventurous spirit. I knew then that he wanted to be an indoor-outdoor cat. I settled into my home in a rural area and he became the neighborhood cat. He would come when I called, use the doggie door, drink out of the dog bowls and even sleep with the dog! There was never a day when he didn't come home and he would always greet me with a two-part meow and tell me all about his social life.

I made another move to a small city and lived on a quaint street in a rooftop apartment house. Cody quickly became King of the Alley. Neighbors loved him and kept an eye out for him. On occasion, I would find him warming himself near someone's chiminea, greeting the firemen who worked across the street, or enjoying the sunshine in the rooftop garden. One day he came to my door with a note attached to his collar. A woman left her number stating she had been feeding and housing him. I called the number and found out the woman lived right across the street. We met and she explained how Cody came right to her door and meowed to come in - among a row of apartments! Her cat recently died and she was heartbroken ... until Cody showed up. It was like he knew she needed him more than I did (if that's even possible). I had to move again and even though it broke my heart to leave Cody, I knew he would be happier staying with his new mom, and she would have been devastated to lose him. I get emails on occasion of how Cody touches the lives of everyone he meets. There is a special place in my heart for my King of the Alley.
