My son got Cooper when she was about eight weeks old. But when she was just one year old he had to move to Phoenix leave her behind. I had never been too fond of cats. I'm a big dog lover and never wanted a cat. I have two large breed dogs that had never been near a cat before. I had to "kitty sit" for her a couple times just before his move and she was no trouble so I said I'd keep her. She was barely one year old, an outdoor cat, intact and with claws. The first thing I did was get her shots (lots of shots it seemed) and have her spayed. I felt so sorry for her. She was taken from her home and put through the wringer. Dogs, vets, shots, and surgery. That's a lot of adjusting for a little kitty. And, as I didn't know a thing about kitties, every time she climbed a tree I grabbed a ladder to rescue her.
Cooper is the most exceptional kitty, very small and pretty too. She adjusted so well to her new life and her new dog-pals. She now rules the house, the dogs, my husband and me. Friends say she's more like a dog than a cat. She always comes when called and is always close by. I'm an avid gardener and she has her own patch of catnip and spearmint that she plays in. She likes to sit at the edge of the pond and watch the fish but has never "gone fishing". However, she did chase the toads away! I love how whereever I am, she's right there keeping me company. She likes to play hide and seek in the closets and the basement ceiling!
She stole our hearts.
