Kitty the Domestic Shorthair, the Cat of the Day
Name: Kitty
Age: Deceased
Gender: Female
Kind: Domestic Shorthair
Home: Texas, USA

Before Kitty, my family and I had about 12 outside cats and a Yorkie, Zydeco. After we moved into my mom's dream house, we bought two greyhounds, Happy and Josephine, and a buddy for Zydeco, Titan, another Yorkie. Unfortunately, our cats weren't too hot with the idea of all the dogs, and ran away to our next door neighbor's house. (They're still living there.)

I was upset about not having any more cats, for I am not only a dog person, but a cat person. That Valentine's Day my sister surprised me with a black kitten! I was super excited and named her Kitty. She was a great cat. She was friends with the dogs, nice to humans, and could use the toilet instead of a litter box! After a while, I let her live on my balcony because she loved the wind and the fresh air, and watching the world from there. It was great until this year.

We were/are remodeling our house and Kitty refused to stay inside so I let her stay on the balcony. A few weeks after construction started, I went to go feed her like I did every morning but she wasn't there waiting for me. I called her name for hours but she did not appear. Finally I gave up and prayed that we would find her. The next two weeks Kitty was nowhere to be found.

Then one day I was calling her name and she meowed back! I looked everywhere but I couldn't find her. She meowed again and I, looking down. I kneeled and put my ear against the cold wood. Kitty was stuck inside the upstairs floor! We couldn't find a way to get her out, and weren't even sure where she was. Then one day, I heard her meow, but it was coming from my parents' bathroom. I ran there and listened. Kitty was underneath the tub! My dad pried open the wood around the tub and Kitty was free at last!

Four weeks in a floor without food or water didn't do Kitty any good. She was unnaturally skinny and very frail. Then one day, I came home from a fun night out and I found Kitty underneath my bed, stationary. I picked her up and set her on my bed. Her breathing was sharp and her eyes were wide. She tried to stand up multiple times only to collapse. I made her a bed of blankets and called it a night, praying for a miracle harder than I've ever prayed before. On Thanksgiving morning, Kitty was in the same spot I'd layed her down in, barely alive. Her last breaths were in my shaking arms. I miss you Kitty, have a good life in heaven.
