Ripley the Tabby, the Cat of the Day
Name: Ripley
Age: Eight years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Tabby
Home: England, United Kingdom

This is my cat Ripley. He has quite a tale to tell, from when he was a kitten, right up to now. He was only a little tiny tabby kitten when we first brought him home, so small he could walk without bending underneath the sofa! We got him from a rescue center, I don't really know what happened to him, or how he ended up there, but he sure was happy to be with a new family. The tiny kitten soon bulked up to be what he is now, a healthy, if overweight, eight-year-old. But his life wasn't all happy hunting and warm cat-milk. Oh no, it couldn't be more different!

When he was four years old, he went missing for a few days. We were all really worried, me and my parents, because we live near a busy road. I made little WANTED and MISSING signs to pin up, but as soon as I had done them, he turned up. What a state he was in too. Blood all round his claws and such a swollen neck, he was so tired, even more then usual!

Being a rather adventurous cat back then, he had gone out for a days hunting in a nearby meadow. It usually had cows in it, so on the one day there was none. Ripley took advantage. He had one of those collars on that didn't snap when it was pulled, because he had such a record of losing all of his collars after the first day of having them. So, when he tried to get past the hedge that marks the field on all sides, his collar got snagged on a branch! He pulled and pulled, causing his claws to splinter and his neck to swell. He must have finally struggled free, and well, we haven't put a collar on him since. To this day, my little cat has no sharp claws, because he lost most of the sharpness on that day, and some of his claws were taken out entirely by the vet because they were getting infected. The vet is the one who helped us figure out what must have happened, from the injuries he had.

I love my cat, and I wouldn't want anything to happen to him. Sometimes he is a pest, but mostly he is just an angel. A pudgy angel that lost its claws in an accident, but an angel nonetheless.
