About Us
Kitty, the Cat of the Day
Name: Kitty
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female
Breed: Domestic Longhair
Home: Tonawanda, New York, USA

Kitty has been a member of my family since she was a kitten in October of 1996. We adopted her from the SPCA the very day that she was brought there. She was the only kitten of the bunch that did what she could to get noticed, including smashing her head into the little crack in the window just trying to get to us. We had to have her.

Shortly after Kitty had blessed our home, we found her best friend, Tiger, in the mall parking lot of where we worked, December of 1996. They did everything together and made a bond that I never thought possible from cats. This all came to an abrupt end in September of 1997. Tiger was hit by a car and died on impact. We were not the only ones mourning Tiger's death, but Kitty was as well. For about two weeks after Tiger had died, she howled at night, as if she were calling for her friend.

Kitty started making a friend out of a snake toy that I had won at a fair one year. She brings the snake everywhere with her, including to her food dish. She tends to give it the most attention when she is bored. She also has a shoebox that she likes to get in and "go for a ride." She actually likes us to push her around the house while she is in the box. She is definitely a unique "Kitty."

In May of 1998, Kitty suffered from chronic vomiting and was admitted to the animal hospital where she was treated for a week. She was very weak and had to undergo exploratory surgery because the doctors couldn't tell what the cause was. They did not find anything in the surgery and just had to administer several different medications, and hope that one would work. Kitty finally stopped vomiting and was able to return home. She didn't begin eating regularly for another week. She has been well ever since. I find myself watching her closer now than ever.

Ever since Tiger died, Kitty didn't seem herself until she visited her "Grandma and Grandpa" at their cottage, and discovered the wonders of hunting. She also made friends with my childhood cat, Tinker, who is celebrating his 17th birthday. They don't share the same kind of bond that Kitty and Tiger shared, but it keeps her a busy "Kitty." Kitty is very special to us. I can't imagine not having her in my life.
