These
three are littermates; there are two more not pictured here. They were
little victims of Hurricane Andrew. Their mother, a stray, was found
dead when the kittens were only ten days old. They had to be bottle
fed for several weeks, and after the trauma they had been through, I
didn't want to separate them, so they all ended up with me.
Biskit is the blue-eyed guy in the foreground, looking at the
photographer. (He insisted on this spelling of his name.) The one
behind him is Monet. The Tuxedo cat is Cindy Crawford. If you look
closely, you can see her mole.
The three in the picture, plus their other two littermates, Rafa and
Nadia (both gray tabbies), are all very sweet and friendly. But they
are as different from each other as people are...different voices,
different fur texture, different personalities, different smells
even. Biskit actually has a slight perfume smell. Rafa would have
been a terrifying alley cat if he hadn't been neutered. He's still a
little confused about what happened. :)) Monet's nature is as soft as
cotton and as sweet as honey. He can't get enough attention and is
never aggressive. He and Rafa are good buddies. Nadia is a talker,
with a very large vocabulary. She will carry on conversations with
you. She's a bit of a loner with the other cats; she prefers people.
Cindy, the smallest, is the feisty one. She is also the most
determined to get what she wants. When I was bottle feeding them all,
she was the one I had to wrap in a towel, so she wouldn't shred my
hands. She absolutely adores Abbie. Biskit is the oddball. I'm the
only person or cat that he cares about. He follows me around like a
dog.
The vet told me that orphaned kittens often are problem cats later,
since they lack the discipline of the mother cat, but I was lucky
enough to already have an adult female cat (Abbie) who adopted them
and spoke harshly to them when necessary. :) She would also hold them
down to wash them, and bop them if they didn't cooperate (gently, of
course).
