Pasha
is both a breathtaking joy and a staggering nightmare. This is
not astonishing news, I suspected it would be so from the moment I
laid eyes on her. Indeed, it was love at first sight; but the
permanent, irreparable bond between woman and beast transpired during
the three-minute journey home as Pasha squawked, hissed and nearly
slashed her way out of the cardboard carrier kindly provided by the
animal shelter.
This kitten has attitude in spades - just eight months old and
clearly the devil incarnate. Sowing the seeds of destruction, ahhhh,
that's her foible. She derives extraordinary satisfaction in freeing
plant roots from the evil earth they inhabit. She is a feline wood
chipper of fine carpets and a fierce and mighty huntress of exquisite
leather footwear. But Pasha does tire of such noble pursuits. When
sated by havoc, she glides majestically, triumphantly atop the rubble
and into my welcoming embrace. After much purring, squeaking and
kneading of my hair, she is exorcised. In my lap lies a vulnerable
and docile creature - on her back, limbs akimbo, head nestled in my
palm, one lip creeping to the side to permit flow of the Bliss Drool
that's emitted in abundance. I am smitten, incapacitated, drunk on
love.
