Gooch
was discovered by a friend of mine in 1990, being mistreated by
some kids as a tiny baby. He was rescued, taken in and fed with an
eye-dropper until he was able feed himself. After years attempting to
kidnap Gooch and begging to have him as my own and Gooch moved in
with me. That was August of 1996.
In February of 1997 he started to have violent seizures. He then
underwent many medical tests to find out the origin of these horrible
seizures. Gooch has even had a Kitty CatScan. Thanks to the tender
and loving care by his doctor, Dr. John Sangiorgio, and his entire
team of professionals at the Staten Island Veterinary Group, Gooch
was diagnosed with Epilepsy (very rare for cats). Since then his
seizures have subsided, with the help of Phenobarbital which he now
has to take for the rest of his life.
Despite the hardships he has had to bear, Gooch is quite the trooper.
Over the years, Gooch has done some amazing things. He has been known
to turn lights on by jumping up and hitting a light switch. He plays
a mean game of fetch. He can even open the cabinet and open his can
of Pounce treats to sneak a tasty snack! He's a crafty one! I have
never met a cat who loves people as much as Gooch. Whenever I'm home
- he is at my side. Even now as I type this he is on this chair with
me. Gooch reminds me when it's just about bedtime by meowing a long
song for me until I tuck him into my bed and we fall asleep together.
I must also credit this loving feline for being able to sense when
I'm upset. He bites my ankles relentlessly until I give in and
pet/play with him - thereby diverting my attention and letting me
forget that I was ever upset. With the invention of the red laser
pointer lights, Gooch gets his share of exercise - chasing the red
dot all over the house! Some day he just might catch on with who is
behind that red light! Uh OH! Gooch has been in the limelight before
now, by being remembered on his birthday and getting cards from
friends all over the globe. Yes, he even gets a birthday party with
gifts and all. Gooch will be nine years old on August 12th. He has also
been mentioned on websites for his charm and good looks. Day in and
day out I'm thankful for the love, fun and all around joy he has
brought to my life. Gooch Baby... you rule! Today is for
you my little furry love!
