Wendy
is an orange tabby cat and became a member of the family to
keep our first cat Byron's weight down. She is his "personal trainer"
and best friend. She's also the boss even though she is less than
half his size.
Wendy is Byron's constant companion and best friend, she is seven and
a half years old. I got Wendy at ten weeks of age from a pet rescue
center. I could tell right away that she would be a lap cat - she
loves to held and petted. It took about three days for Wendy and
Byron to get used to one another. She was a tiny little kitten of
about one pound and he was already a one year old, fully grown and
weighing seventeen pounds so it was natural for her to be a bit
fearful. Byron was actually afraid of Wendy as well, when she would
hiss at him he would run and hide - I don't think he knew he was a
big grown up cat at that point.
The name "Wendy" turned out to be quite appropriate for Wendy. The
name is from the story of Peter Pan and of course in the story, Wendy
could fly. Well, my Wendy can "fly" in her own way. She is an
extremely agile acrobat who confidently goes to the highest points in
my home. My living room ceiling goes up twenty feet and around the
outside of the kitchen area is a high ledge that is at least twelve
feet high. Wendy loves to go out on the ledge to "spy" on people in
the living room. Another favorite spot is a landing above the dining
room - she likes to hang out there and see if there's any interesting
food in the dining room.
Wendy's favorite toy is Byron. She loves to chase him and for him to
chase her. She does play with the mice sometimes and with foil balls,
but Byron is by far her favorite, fortunately he loves her very much
and enjoys playing with her. Wendy is quite small (eight pounds) in
comparison to Byron and she loves warm places. Wendy looks for
sunbeams or the top of the computer monitor when she needs to warm
up, but her favorite warm place by far is Byron's tummy. She will
cozy up to him and groom his face and head until he lets her snuggle
up close to him, it's funny to watch.
