Kramer
enters a room with style and occasional grace much
like his namesake Cosmo Kramer. The white lighting bolt
across the floor often ends in a belly flop when he reaches
a non-carpeted area. He also does a military low crawl and
a regal parade prance with his dark tail standing at
attention showing off the white tip of superiority. Even
though he is the only cat in the house, he let you know he
is the top cat.
He lives with one permanent, one mostly permanent, and a
series of ever changing residents (this year: two dogs and
four humans) all who took over his room. This really keeps
Kramer on his paws. He has to break them into his way of
doing things. When he enters a room, don't forget that only
when he wants to play can you play with him and only if he
wants attention are you allowed to give him attention.
Despite this aloofness he demands that you spoil him
whenever possible. When you have ice cream, make sure there
is enough so he can have a scoop too. He always wants a
kitty treat when you've been gone for one of those 18 hour
work days and his ears scratched while you listen to your
messages on the answering machine. The biggest rule to
remember is that only with his permission are you allowed
to stay in his house.
Among the favorite places in his ten room domain is the
utility room and all the laundry baskets placed so the
humans can sort their dirty laundry into various loads. He
also likes places he's not supposed to go such as the
enclosed back porch and subsequent basement, the attic
dormers, and the bedroom under construction. Here is where
he definitely has his humans trained. He has figured out
how to be rewarded for this bad behavior. When his
curiosity gets him into these places, the only successful
way to get him out (since you cannot easily get him
cornered) is to bribe him with a can of gourmet cat food.
Kramer has learned to adjust to the household energy
conservation effort and when he gets cold, he, like the
humans, finds an afghan or blanket then craws underneath it
to keep warm. He especially likes to do this when one of
those silly humans is trying to make the bed after a long
night sleep. Even dog loving humans thinks he a pretty
good cat -- for a cat.
