I
was in search of a kitten and went home with the Mother cat instead
-- Cali! She was barely five-and-a-half-months old, abandoned and the
mother of eight kittens. The first thing I noticed about Cali was one
eye lined with "black eyeliner," the other eye left bare.
Certainly not a candidate for Maybelline eye cosmetics -- thus the
middle name "Maybelline."
Her fondest toy is a tiny white stuffed bunny. Each night on
schedule, she awakes me to announce the arrival of bunny - she
gingerly lays it near me on the bed, then curls up to sleep
contently. Cali is fond of "reading" books and newspapers
and "talks" to me as I turn pages. Her favorite nap spot is
on my stomach when I am reclined on the couch or in bed.
I am happy to say that Cali is no longer abandoned - I found homes
for seven of her kittens, and kept the runt of the litter to keep her
company - "Chloe," a tortoiseshell cat who loves to wash
Mom's face.
Shortly after I sent the photo she became quite ill after escaping
outside. I am happy to report she is doing well and herself again.
X-ray showed she ingested a foreign object. Two bottles of pills and
liquid antibiotics did the trick.
