Otis
is the most sweet, stubborn, loyal, and obnoxious cat I've ever
known. He's lived with me since he was a kitten, and for that first
year it was just the two of us. He is very attached to me and my
husband now, but shy with new people. If there are more than four people
in a room (you can see him counting, I swear!) he'll hide under
furniture in another room. He loves nothing more in the world (even
food) then getting his back scratched. He doesn't consider the
scratching complete until there're gobs of black and white hairs all
over the carpet.
He'll chase string and the cat fishing pole whenever the interloper
kitten, Suzie, lets him get at it. He absolutely loves catnip. In
fact, we can't bring catnip toys home for either cat, because he'll
rip them to shreds to eat the catnip inside them. Actually, he's a
much happier cat since we brought Suzie home. He used to get very
lonely during the day. He'd always be waiting in the window for us to
come home.
Otis is a huge cat, 17 pounds, and mostly he's just long. We had to
get the smallest dog carrier for him. When he was a kitten he used to
sleep by my head, but as he grew I decided I still liked to breathe.
He'll still come and cuddle by the side or at the feet of his humans,
though. As long as you're touching him, even if it's just to throw an
arm over him so he feels secure, he just purrs like crazy. He's
totally passive about bath time and claw clipping, putting up only
the smallest token protest and waiting for his treat afterwards. Otis
has his own web page.
