We
found Salem on Halloween last year and it was almost as if she
magically fell from the sky into our hands. We figured that between
the spooky horror flick "Salem's Lot," and the infamous
witch trials of Salem, Massachusetts, Salem was the perfect name for
a Halloween kitty.
Salem is a constant source of pure entertainment, perhaps because she
is so easily amused (or are we the ones so easily amused?). A slow
trickle of water streaming from the faucet becomes a curiosity to be
explored. Rubber bands, popsicle sticks, and brown paper bags become
instant toys. Patches of sunlight or the beam from a flashlight throw
her into a frantic frenzy! Our personal favorite: a rollicking round
of hide-and-seek, where she chases us from room to room and hunts us
out if we take cover. Ah, the simple pleasures of being a cat...
But beyond her super-silly hyperactivity, Salem has brought us joy. A
furry, fuzzy force of nature equally ready to curl up and purr as to
wrestle with you until the blood flows. Of course, like all creatures
of the feline persuasion, she can be a super pain in the keister.
Attacking us at 2 a.m., digging in the plants as if she's discovered
a sure path to China, sweetly licking your face then suddenly taking
a taste...we wouldn't want her any other way.
