Shammy
was a very special cat to us. My husband and I bought him at a
local pet store. He was eyeing a pretty little white kitten, but I
couldn't take my eyes off of the little ball of orange fur peeking at
me through the cage. The minute I held him I knew he was ours. When
we first got Shammy he was very sick. He only weighed about one pound
and he kept having diarrhea. The doctors had to save his life. After
that, Shammy grew into a healthy, energetic and most of the time
crazy cat! He loved to tear through the house chasing his best friend
Blackie everywhere. The two would often play fight for hours. His
other friend, Squealer, was much quieter and more fearful; Shammy
managed to win her over too. Those two were inseparable and would
lick each other while laying side by side. He warmed our hearts for
four wonderful years. His favorite toys were his cat charmer string,
a dried up palm branch, and, of course, a fully decorated Christmas
tree which was just too tempting not to climb.
In May of last year, Shammy didn't seem like himself. He started
sleeping more and losing weight. We brought him to the doctor
immediately who diagnosed shammy with kidney failure and large kidney
stones. We were shocked and utterly saddened. We were told he would
only live a few more days. The doctor graciously let us take Shammy
home. Somehow, with lots of love, Shammy stayed around for another
three months. Those were some of our best times as a family. We let
Shammy eat what he wanted and we took him special places like the
lake so he could watch the ducks. Shammy finally gave up his battle
on August 22 of last year. We miss him very much but he will always
have a special place in our hearts. We love you Shammy!
