Lisserick
(black kitty) and Scooter (tabby and white) sometimes nap
together when it's chilly. Both are shelter kitties and are very
happy to be in a good home. Lisserick is about eight years old. I
adopted him when he was about five years old. He got his name because
when my niece was two years old she couldn't say licorice. He was
renamed because at the shelter where he lived for a year (!) he was
called Black Magic. I think he prefers Lisserick!
Scooter is fourteen years old and was diagnosed last month as being
diabetic. I knew something was wrong because he was losing weight,
but eating lots of food and acting very lethargic. We are still
trying to regulate his insulin level, but he seems to be feeling much
better. I've had to learn to give him shots twice a day. It sounds
terrible, but if i sit on the floor with him while i do it, pet him
and give him a treat he's fine with the shot. If I give the shot
correctly, he doesn't even flinch!! The trick is finding a good
veterinarian that you trust. My vet has a lot of diabetic clients...
he has encouraged me to ask questions and even introduced me to other
diabetic cat owners!! Sometimes the waiting room is like a support
group. The diagnosis of the disease was more expensive than the
treatment. We all live in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
