This
is my cat Muri. He's six years old, undefined breed, somewhere
between persian and tiger, so I can say - Domestic Middlehair Tiger with
residence in Slovenia, Europe. The length of his hair unbelievably
varies from short in the summer to long in the winter. Muri adores all
kinds of flowers. His devotion to flowers is extraordinary. He wants to
sleep near the flowers, whenever he has a chance. When we first noticed
his passion for flowers, he wanted to sleep on the table, under the vase
full of flowers. Then, on our balcony, he jumped into manger fool of
blooming flowers (Begonia Tuberhybrida) and took a nap on the top of the
flowers. Flowers were broken, but those on the edges survived and
enabled him to have a bed with flowers during all year. From that time
on, every spring we reserve one manger of flowers specially for him. For
almost six years he has been resting, during the day, in the same manger
in the same place, two feet from the ground. Every year we plant one or
two flowers in the edge of the manger full of soil especially for him so
he has his desired flowers in his bed next to the head. In our family we
say that he is like the bull, Ferdinand, in the famous illustrated
children's book "The Story of Ferdinand" by Munro Leaf, in
which the young bull didn't want to fight. Instead, he wanted to just
smell the flowers.
Muri is extremely gentle, smart and he understands what every noise
means (for example cutting the meet or opening refrigerator) and he
knows the meaning of some words. But the noise of small fly totally
upsets him and he panics. His favorite food is baked sea fish or chicken
and fresh beef. Most of the time he wanders outdoors, and comes home
only to eat. Outside he hunts, plays with leaves, chases female cats,
defends his territory and naturally sleeps in the flowers. You can
seldom hear him mewing. He rather make noises like bear hum or horse
snort. Usually he purrs when he came home.
His favorite game is "catching the small paper clump". But
there is a condition, he needs a companion to play. He waits in ambush
and I must throw clump near by him. When the paper ball flights beside
him, he jumps and catches the ball with his mouth or first with paw, but
in the end it always finish in the mouth. When he catches the clump,
brings it to me, like a dog, in his mouth and drop it next to my leg.
Then with speed of lightning take cover behind a couch, under the bed or
other secret place. He waits in ambush for new projectile. When he wants
to play, he finds paper ball somewhere in the apartment on his own,
bring it to me and drop it behind me. Play can take hours, especially in
the middle of the night, when I want to sleep, but he is so cute that I
have to throw him paper ball again and again. This play used to be his
primary occupation. Now, he is older (six years) and unfortunate doesn't
want to play with paper balls so often.
An interesting story is how I got Muri. He was born in litter of three
cats to stray mother cat, which we fed. She came close but she didn't
allowed us to touch her. Lifting or grabbing her was impossible.
Children played with small ten-day-old kittens, so the mother cat
abandoned one of them, Muri. He was whining all Sunday morning totally
wet in the rain, on the grass, behind the block and woke the whole
neighborhood. He was little fuzzy ball, smaller than hand. We showed
mercy and took him home. He didn't know how to drink. We fed him through
the syringe every two hours. My parents had jobs, so I went back home
between classes, hours from town, and fed Muri. My mother even took a
day off, when I was out of town. For me Muri is the cutest cat in the
world and he is a more than perfect pet.
