Jasper
was adopted from an animal shelter in Chesterfield, VA out of a
litter of nine. His mother had abandoned her kittens, and some very nice
person brought them to the shelter. I went to the shelter expecting to
adopt a grey female. Instead, this small (even tiny) white male kitten
kept reaching through the bars to get me, and when I played with him, he
mewed if I tried to put him back. Eventually I accepted Jasper's
judgement that we were meant for each other. Unlike other cats, Jasper
has no fear of flame or water. Lit candles don't stay lit for long
around the Jasper, and must be put out of reach of his
fire-extinguishing paw. I've even had to be watchful while there's a
fire in the fire place. Ignoring his water dish, Jasper waits patiently
for a faucet to be turned on. Get out of the shower or bathtub, and
you'll quickly find your place usurped by this white cat. He also loves
Autumn, when he can bury himself in the leaves and dare you to find him
(not very hard considering his color). All in all, I think Jasper knew
better than I when he reached through the cage. I can't imagine life
without him.
