Byron
is a large black and white "tuxedo" cat. His favorite
activities are grazing in the garden (any edible flowers or grass
will do) and playing with his best friend
Wendy.
Byron is the first cat I ever owned and he is a lot of fun. Byron was
the runt of his litter and his mother wouldn't nurse him for very
long. He was bottle fed by his first family for a few weeks and then
he came to my home at seven weeks of age. He weighed less than one
pound at the time and now he tips the scales at seventeen pounds.
Byron was a high energy kitten and quite a handful to keep up with,
he is still quite a clown at 8 1/2. One of Byron's favorite games is
tossing toy mice down the stairs. He has an assortment of furry toy
mice that he loves to pounce and chew on. He likes it when I slide
the mice down the banister (it's quite wide). He "hides" from the
mouse as it slides and then pounces it as it flies off the end of the
banister.
Byron also likes to try opening the front door. He and Wendy are
indoor cats and are allowed outside only with supervision (and on
leashes with harnesses). Byron loves to eat catnip, flowers such as
pansies, violas and sweet alyssum, and to graze on the lawn. He can
barely wait to go out each morning and so he stands on his hind feet
and reaches up to turn the door knob (he is three feet long when
standing). On my front door if the dead bolt is not locked, the door
can be easily opened by turning the knob. Byron let himself out once
when I first moved to my home a few months ago and he remembers this
and so he tries the door knob every morning. He really has no
interest in running off, he just wants to get to his lawn right away.
One of my reasons for getting our second cat, Wendy, was to give
Byron more exercise and to keep him out of trouble. He once chewed
through the electrical cord to my phone answering machine. It fried
the machine and could have harmed him, luckily he was fine, but he
did need something to keep him from boredom when I was not home. My
veterinarian told me to "get him a kitten" and he was right. Wendy
has been the perfect solution to keeping Byron active and out of
trouble. It's fun to have two cats with such different personalities.
