We
adopted an injured, black-and-white female barn cat in 1989 when we
moved to Idaho. "Wuss" was the sweetest, best-behaved cat we
had ever owned. When she died in October of 1998, we were brokenhearted,
and her adopted sister "Helen Wheels" was, too. Less than a
week after Wuss died, however, a friend called to tell me that the
same barn where we had found Wuss nine years earlier had
kittens available for adoption. In fact, my friend had found two
very cute striped members of the litter playing in her horse trailer
when she went there for her riding lesson. We went for a visit and fell
in love at first sight with the female of this pair ("Stripe"
and "Stripe-ette"), who we promptly renamed
"Scribble."
I've never owned a tabby before but now everyone tells me they are
unusually bright and mischievous, which "Scribble" certainly
is. I always wanted a beautiful daughter who loves horses like I do -
and here she is! Formerly fat, sedentary Helen Wheels adores Scribble
too - and having a rambunctious "kid" in the house has given
Helen a new lease on life, not to mention improving her waistline.
