Helena
is not my Cat of the Day, but the pet of my lifetime. Although
she recently left me this past weekend due to renal failure, she will
remain forever in my heart. Helena came into my life at the tender age
of six weeks (after capturing her from behind a china hutch in her birth
home!) She was always a rather shy, daddy's girl. For years many of my
friends never saw her and believed me to be delusional about my 2nd cat,
a playmate for my first cat, Dustin. While Dustin possesses the typical
feline attitude of "When I want attention, I'll let you know", Helena
was at the opposite end of the spectrum-very much a lover- a lap cat for
sure. Her internal clock always struck at 10:30 pm each evening, letting
me know it was time to go to bed and give her a belly rub. She always
seemed to sense when I needed her attention and always gave it
unconditionally. Dustin and I will miss her terribly but also know she
is in a better place, with no pain. We know she's just gone ahead of us
to get things ready for the day when we'll all be together again; until
then, she'll keep a watchful eye over us and wait patiently.
