The
pictures show the same kitty, Godfrey, who is two years old. Let me
tell you the story: Single, 54, with no children, I lived in my
no-pets-allowed apartment for six years. I work at a law firm named
Godfrey & Kahn, and all of my co-workers knew I wanted a kitty but the
lease said no. Meanwhile, my mother died after a long illness, making me
quite sad. Two days after her death I returned to work and my co-workers
all gathered round me bearing gaily wrapped packages. What can this be?
First they presented a card which read, "At this sad time, we wanted to
give you a gift of life. (Your landlady said you could have a kitty, and
here are the adoption forms.)" A kitty!! Me! The packages contained a
litter box, litter, food, toys.... And I went down to our Green Bay
Humane Shelter that noon to choose a female kitty. But no. There was the
cutest, most playful little guy I ever saw, nine weeks old, who wanted all
my attention. He got it. I brought him home and gave him the birthday of
April 1 (April Fool! I'm a boy). When I went to pick him up, the staff
at the humane shelter told me that the day I walked in and completed the
adoption forms was to be Godfrey's last day... his time "was up." And I
named him Godfrey after the name of the law firm for which I still work.
And Godfrey's time won't "be up" for years and years. He gets the best
of everything and all my love. He's a long-haired kitty who doesn't lose
much hair at all, has the coloring of a Maine Coon or Siberian Mountain
breed. He walks well on a leash and licks my face 'til I laugh.
