One
day in July, about three years ago, we went out to do some shopping.
When we got to the store, there was a lady sitting on the sidewalk with
a box that said "Free Kitten." We told her, "If you'll
keep the kitten until we're done here, we'll take her." We took her
home, named her Millie, and since then she has made our three other
cats' lives miserable. The cat she picks on most is Eleanor, who is
about twice her size. If Ellie is asleep in her cat bed, Millie will
come up and literally pound her on the head! Millie also likes to
explore the kitchen counters at night. So far, she's rolled cat food
cans into the living room, popped off the plastic lids, had her fill,
and left them to rot on the white carpet; she's taken a miniature loaf
of bread and tucked it neatly into the corner behind her cat bed; she's
taken bags of tortillas into the living room; she's knocked a can of
Brewers' yeast off the counter, punched the lid full of holes, and left
the carpet covered in yeast; she's wrestled a wrapped rock cornish game
hen out of the sink and left it to drip juice in the dining room; she's
chewed up paper bags of cookies, flour, cat food, and cat litter; and
she's knocked over the compost bin onto the floor so many times I can't
count. And I could go on! Despite the fact that this cat is a pain,
though, I just can't bear the thought of getting rid of her, because I
love her. She's taken me over!
