We
rescued Jerry when he was thrown out of a car in front of us! This
might explain why, although loving to be with or next to you, he hates
being picked up and held. When we picked him up off the road Jerry was a
scrawny, homely, little guy with big bat ears. Not wanting him to grow
up with a complex, we named him after a "hunk" my teenage
daughters saw on MTV.
Jerry has more than lived up to his name. He's quite handsome, serious,
and dignified. He's also very vocal, with lots of different meows
depending upon whether he's singing along with you or discussing his
latest cat fancy.
When Jerry joined our family we already had another cat, Lucy, and a
Standard Poodle, Charlie (Charlotte). Jerry bonded with Lucy, but she
died when Jerry a year old. He turned his affections to Charlie who
accepted them patiently. We adopted another kitty, Sammy, four years ago
and it took Jerry two years to warm up to him. Last year Jerry's
faithful friend Charlie died, and we brought Maggie, a Standard Poodle
puppy, into our family. Jerry immediately welcomed her with great
interest, tolerating her obnoxious behavior with his typical dignity and
quite a few hisses and "bops" on her nose when she pushed the
limit. He may get her trained to his liking yet. In the meantime, he has
become more aggressive in his demands for our attention when he sees
Maggie getting more than her share. Heaven forbid we should brush her
without brushing him at the same time.
