Willy
showed up on our patio around Thanksgiving 1994. He wouldn't let
us touch him but did eat and drink whatever we put out for him. After
two weeks, he let mom pet him, then he ran up the steps into the house
and our hearts were won! Our veterinarian estimated Willy's age at ten
when he came to us, so now he's approximately fifteen. Willy is a lover who
reaches up to put his front legs around mom's neck and bury his head
against mine. He's a brave old man too... has scared off more than a
few dogs who thought of drinking from Willy's water bowl. Last week
Willy was diagnosed with diabetes and so we are now giving him an
insulin shot each morning and evening. The diabetes has caused his back
legs to become very weak so we are hoping that the insulin will help
restore Willy's strength. You can hope too. We are so grateful that God
sent Willy to live with us! He's just the best!
While he has not recovered much of the strength in his hind legs, he
still gets around and seems very content. Don built steps for Willy to
get onto our bed as Willy is confined to our large bedroom (with lots of
windows... he's happy) and Willy particular enjoys cuddling with us
during the night. He is such a lover! We have a ten month old family of
four other cats (two male, two female). We found them as babies in the
basement of our home while it was under construction and bottle raised
them. We weren't sure if Willy would tolerate them but he does, from a
short distance. He plays as best he can when I dangle toys for the
kittens and does a little boxing with one of the two girls now and then.
