Seamus
weighs over 20 pounds but he is the sweetest most gentle being
you could ever imagine! He is infinitely patient and will think for a
long time about something before he decides to do it! When he was one
year old, we bought him a companion Maine Coon, who is his half brother
named Cody. We decided to do this when we noticed that he was grooming
one of his toys, a stuffed lion. He was very lonely during the day when
we were at work. I was given the usual warnings about bringing a small
kitten into a home where there is already an established cat. We were
told by various people to keep the two isolated for a few days and then
gradually introduce them. The first night I brought Cody home I kept him
in the bathroom with a litter box, food dish and some toys. Seamus
stayed outside of the room all night and tried to stick his paws under
the door. He seemed very worried about this little creature in the next
room. The next day we decided to open the door and let them meet. It was
amazing!! Seamus immediately started to groom the kitten and in an
hour's time they were curled up together in their little bed. They have
been best friends ever since. Cody thinks the sun rises and sets on
Seamus! When he is scared he runs and hides behind his big brother!
(even though he is now nearly 20 pounds himself!)
Seamus wakes us up every morning (we no longer use an alarm clock) and
runs to the door to greet us when we get home. He "speaks" in
his own Maine Coon language which consists of trills, puurrts and other
little noises. He sits on command for treats and stands on his hind legs
for a pat on the head. He picks up things with his giant paws including
his food which he places in his mouth one piece a time. He supervises
every activity in the household!
He is truly a remarkable cat and the best friend and companion I could
ever hope to have! Seamus, you are cat of the millennium in my books!
