Rouquine
(French for Redhead) found us on December 26th 1999. We had
seen her around the house a couple of times, but she wouldn't let us
approach her. Since the winter was particularly cold, we made a
shelter and left food outside for her. She was about one year old,
obviously malnourished, sick, dirty and seemed to be pregnant, she
urgently needed T.L.C... a couple of days later on another attempt to
keep her out of the cold, she finally came inside and right away took
over the territory (much to
Noisette's
dismay).
We took her to the Vet and he confirmed that she was very sick, so we
had her treated for worms, tics and fleas and the Doc reassured us
that what we thought was a pregnant belly, was in fact, caused by
malnourishment. The first couple of weeks weren't easy and everyone in
the house (especially her new sister) needed to adapt to her strange
behaviors. When she finally realized that she would never run out of
food, we gained her trust and she became very affectionate and social.
Rouquine has now grown into a healthy and beautiful "people"
cat. Her favorite things are playing with her furry toy, running in
the stairs, receiving massages and sleeping on our new chair (that we
apparently bought just for her!) With her big green eyes and loud
purrs, she thanks us every day for loving her unconditionally. We're
so glad she found us!
