Just
five days after losing our fourteen-year-old cat to kidney disease, we
found Moses in a supermarket parking lot. He was dirty, scared,
hungry, and so tiny that he did not have all his baby teeth. We
brought him home for a good meal, a bath, and a visit to the Vet.
He has become an integral part of our household and currently tips the
scales at twenty pounds. Moses is the perfect pet for a retired couple.
Though he is not very affectionate except on his own terms, he just
has to be where the action is so he can supervise and help with
everything from reading the newspaper and making the bed to sewing or
tending to home repairs. He's also a thief, and we often find odd
items on the bed in the morning as proof of his nocturnal activities.
When he finds us too boring to follow, he is content to watch the
world from his own large shelf under the window where he can converse
with the neighborhood cats and the birds who come eat our berries.
