came to us on Thanksgiving '94, hence the name. He joined the
other fur person in the household, Valentyn, who arrived on Valentine's
Day. He is generally a chatty cat and enjoys a good game of Hide & Seek
with favorite teddy bear. When he says, "stop," he means it,
and will nip you. Never enough to break the skin, just hard enough so
there is no doubt who is running this show. We changed his name in new
respect to "Mr. Cat."
I am a diabetic and must always control my blood glucose level. There
are times, like when sleeping that my glucose level can fall so
dangerously low that I could drop into a coma. Mr. Cat sleeps on our
bed, of course. Several months ago during the night he jumped on me,
pawing me and licking my face. He wouldn't be chased away and would
return jumping back on and pawing me. I woke up enough to realize that I
was in trouble. I did all that I'm suppose to do in these cases and all
was well, I thought. About a week later the same thing happened again,
but this time I thought through the incident. It wasn't a fluke. This
had been the second time I was in trouble and some how Mr. Cat knew I
was in danger and woke me up. The how and why totally escapes me.
We believe that animals are special, each in its own way. Some are
friends, playmates, helpers to the blind, police, drowning victims, etc.
We all have heard wonderful stories of animals (dogs mostly) that have
been known to warn their owners they are about to have a seizure in time
to allow that person to seek safety. Now a cat, my cat, Mr. Cat. He came
to me six years ago for a reason unknown to either of us. Maybe we ought
to change his name to Doctor Cat...
