About Us
Oscar, the Cat of the Day
Name: Oscar
Age: Two and a half years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Domestic Cat
Home: Nunawading, Australia

Oscar is two and a half years old, he is a white, domestic cat and lives with my husband, our Siamese cat called Tessie and myself in a suburb of Melbourne (Australia) called Nunawading which is 20 kilometres east of the Melbourne CBD.

Oscar is a very special cat for a number of reasons. Firstly, as he is white with blue eyes he is completely deaf and does not miouw. Instead, he runs around the house (sliding all over our polished floorboards!) squeaking like a mouse! Secondly, he has Cardiomyopathy which means his heart is too big for his body and it pumps too much blood around his system. He is on two forms of medications that he takes twice a day to help thin his blood and slow his heart beat down. Because of his illness our vet has informed us that he will not live a very long life, however, my husband, Tessie and myself spoil him rotten and are ensuring that even if he doesn't have a very long life he will have a very happy one!

Oscar is an inside cat as it is too risky to let him stay outside all day as he would not be able to run and hide if he heard approaching children or dogs, etc. He is allowed to run around the backyard if he is supervised by either myself or my husband. When he is outside he has a ball and rolls on the grass, runs through the garden and sniffs everything in sight! Oscar has also never grown up and still carries on like a three month old kitten. When he gets too boisterous and rough with Tessie she miouws at him and hisses, but because he can't hear her he does not understand she is angry and continues being a nuisance. It is quite funny to watch but obviously very annoying for Tessie! Oscar is a beautiful cat but a bit of a loner, he prefers to sit on the arm of the couch than on a human lap but enjoys life immensely.
