About Us
Zelda, the Cat of the Day
Name: Zelda
Age: Four and a half years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Tabby
Home: Mineapolis, Minnesota, USA

Zelda, also known as ZeldaPie, Pie, and Damien (in her crazy moods) was a Christmas gift to me from my husband. She was a Hennepin County Humane Society kitten, about ten weeks old. Before Zelda came along, my husband hadn't known any cats personally and had little interest in them; he thought Zelda would be my cat. Well, that idea lasted all of five minutes. He's been her "daddy" ever since, and absolutely dotes on her (as do I)!

I'm afraid our Pie is extremely spoiled. Our old house is full of nooks and crannies in which we've placed comfy cat beds, and all of our windows have some kind of perch for Zelda, so she can watch the birds and squirrels outside. She's an indoor cat, because as city dwellers we've seen too many cats die young, from car accidents, poisons, disease, fights with other animals, etc. Of course Pie has to get her ya-yas out, so we play with her every morning and evening, always trying different toys and games to keep her active and mentally stimulated. She's a single kitty who's intolerant of other animals and of most human visitors, so her fun comes from interacting with us. Most of our friends get hissed at; she's the most territorial cat I've ever known!

She follows us from room to room, sometimes content to simply be near us, sometimes happy to "help" us (as in help us wrap gifts or read the newspaper). Her favorite game is "dig-dig," where we move a feathered wand under a rug so she can dig and paw at it. She also loves chasing toys as they skitter across the wood floors. (She particularly likes the plastic rings from milk cartons.) Zelda loves getting "big pets" from Daddy and enjoys being carried around the house; she lies in my arms like a Sphinx, paws together, staring straight ahead and sniffing everything. Daddy lifts her high above his head so she can investigate all the corners, and sometimes she'll settle in the top shelf of cupboard for a nap. She won't get down until Daddy holds up a chair for her to climb onto, so she's lowered ever so gently to the ground. Really, all she's missing is a diamond tiara. She's our little princess.
