One
chilly October morning, the children at the school my son was
attending, found a box containing three orphaned kittens abandoned by
the curb. They were very tiny. In the adoption procedures that
followed, my son brought one of the kittens home. His teacher had
informed him this one was a boy, so he was named Norman. Norman was so
tiny we fed him with an eyedropper the first few days and had to teach
him to eat solids off the tips of our fingers. After a time, when
Norman got a little more mature, we discovered "he" was
actually a "she". So, sometimes I call her Norman the Queen
of Mean, (when she is particularly naughty), or Norman Jean.
She amuses us greatly when she stretches out on her back, doing an
imitation of a beached whale. She loves to sleep, watch the birds fly
by the window, catch & eat flies, (yuck) and run in and out at night
before we go to bed. She will sleep with us only if we remain
absolutely still so as not to bother her. If we move, she gets huffy
and leaves. She also like to crawl into boxes, bags, the laundry basket
and open drawers. Mostly she is just lazy & rests. Other than cat
food, she occasionally enjoys small tidbits of bread with margarine,
yogurt, ice cream and cooked, white turkey or chicken. She likes to be
held, tummy up, or carried around so she can see from "up
high". We think that when she was inside her mother, she was in a
strange position, with her front legs bent back alongside her body
because she has bowed front legs. This gives the appearance that she
is going downhill, and makes it difficult for her to jump up high. We
think she's cute and we love her very much.
