This
is Montanna, he is six months old in this picture. He is a
Norwegian Forest Cat cross. I didn't set out to get a cat the day we
got Montanna. I had about an hour to kill and I was by our local SPCA,
and just dropped in to see the kitties. As soon as I walked in the
door, out flew this paw, waggin' and wavin' at me, then there was all
this talkin'. I went over to see him and he did back flips, turned
upside down, inside out - just incredible antics to get my attention.
As I looked at the other cats, I could see he had his eye on me. Even
though there were four other people in the room, it was my attention
he sought. I broke down and just had to hold him... he cuddled right
up against my neck and started purring, and licking my chin... well,
my heart was melted.
But I really wasn't looking for another cat, and the cut off time for
adoption had now past. When I went to put him back, he just wouldn't
let go. Finally I had to leave, I could almost see the disappointment
in his brown eyes, (he had brown eyes at first). When I was leaving I
decided to put a hold on him until the next day. All I could think
about all night was that face, what would happen to him if I didn't
take him. My husband wasn't at all excited about getting another cat,
"Two cats... all that extra work, what if they don't get
along..." It was left up to me to decide - so I jumped in the car
and went and got him. Our other cat at the time (Shelby) wasn't too
keen on her new little brother, but after a few years, eventually they
did get along. Montanna, now twelve, is the most gentle loving guy, even
to his two new siblings,
Otis
and Sophie.
Montanna's personality is of a gentle giant (he weighs twenty pounds)
and he is my very best friend. He still hasn't stopped talking, and my
husband now says "Three Cats!" - a true cat person deep
down.
