Moneypenny
aka "The Queen" aka "The Grand Old
Lamb" was a long-hair Calico born 22 years ago in the San
Francisco Bay Area. Since that time, I found every conceivable way to
spoil her, including special treats, custom furniture, and service
suited to her royal status. And, when I married several years ago, my
wife joined in, and contributed to the act.
Although she just passed on, Moneypenny had survived the hazards of
living around coyotes, the loss of home in the Oakland hills fire
storm, an encounter with a rabid raccoon, a less dangerous but more
odorous tiff with a mother skunk, frequent disagreements with
neighborhood dogs, and the occasional addition of other cats to our
household. But that's not why she was special. She was special because
she was my constant companion during all of that time, and a comfort
and love beyond any human words.
