While
visiting our friend in a terrible area of town, we noticed a
persistent meowing coming from the old abandoned apartment above. We
decided to break in. Inside this apartment we found this tiny baby,
who was entirely too skinny and frail (we could see her spine through
her coat), and who's voice had turned from a healthy meow into an old
lady-like scratchy whine. She was beautiful, with marmalade colored
eyes that were crossed from lack of vitamins. The people who had lived
there had moved out and locked the kitten inside the apartment. When
we took her to the vet, we were told that she was four weeks old,
malnourished and had developed a vitamin deficiency from not eating or
drinking anything for at least seven days. Needless to say, we now
have a very healthy, happy, loving eight-month-old baby who we've
named Lulu, but we call her our Love Bunny. She's a chaser. She chases
your toes under the sheets, she chases her "best friend" Mable (our
other beautiful baby), she chases hand shadows, and, of course, she
chases her tail. She and Mable have become the loves of our lives. It
seems her bad fortune turned out to be our blessing in disguise.
