This
is Pook, aka Her Felinity, aka my Personal Panther Princess. Her
name is short for Spook, because when she was a tiny kitty, she was so
afraid of strangers that whenever someone she didn't know came in the
house, she would run and hide, usually under the bathroom sink. (She's
long since learned that strangers are a valuable source of petting
which she would be foolish to ignore.) She was born into a clan of
semi-feral cats under a friend's house in Houston. Her mother, Miss
Tux, was (yes) a tuxedo cat, a style which Pook has adapted to a white
tummy patch and a light fringe of white (barely visible in the
picture) that I think of as her lace collar. Also visible in the
picture is her occasional lapse in manners by sticking her tongue out.
She recently joined me on vacation when it turned out that neither of
my housemates was going to be around to feed her in my absence. She
enjoyed exploring my friends' house - cautiously - but wasn't at all
inclined to be friendly with their cats. No one came to blows, though.
All the humans kept their eyes open for a cat getting in trouble in an
unfamiliar house, at one point resorting to a brief cat hunt when no
one could find her. If I'd thought about it for a few seconds, though,
I could have gone straight to where she eventually turned up: under
the bathroom sink!
