Cleocatra, the Cat of the Day
Name: Cleocatra
Age: Four and a half years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Medium-Hair Tortoiseshell
Home: Kingston, Pennsylvania, USA

When I walked into Petsmart I had my heart set on a pure black kitty to adopt. Every time I passed Cleo she butted her head against her cage door to get my attention and it didn't take long to realize that we were meant to be together. Those luminous eyes just melted my heart! I had never seen such coloring on a kitty and learned she was a Tortoiseshell. She was a year and a half old when we met.

Cleo is strictly an indoor cat, which even if that wasn't a rule of the adoption, it would go without saying for me, having had a fatal experience with a beloved kitty in the past. She sits up all night on a stool in front of the window facing the street like a little sentinel--I call her my Owley-Cat. And when it's time to go to work she's there like clockwork at 6:30, in my room batting at window blinds and knocking things around--generally doing things she knows drives me nuts. No chance of sleeping in with her around!

The maximum time limit for being held is 20 seconds, and she'll allow petting when she's in the mood. She's irresistible to me though and she's pretty patient with allowing me to maul her on a regular basis. She plays with all her toys but I think she prefers licking Q-Tips, cotton balls, and chewing on straws! She also goes nuts in the morning when I reach for my glasses, trying to get a chance at chomping on the thin earpieces before they reach my head. She has a very quiet purr and sometimes I have to put my ear on her to hear it. I guess she was born with an extra-strong muffler. Sometimes we'll find her in unexpected high places, sitting like a statue and waiting to be discovered. And then of course she has her nightly crazy-run which is prefaced with a chilling yowl! Cleo is such a funny, well-behaved little sweetie and I can't imagine life without her. She's an unending joy!
