Harvey
is a three-year-old male orange tabby, who has been neutered,
and is my little darling. He sleeps with me, not curled up, like
most, but sprawled out with one arm shoved under my armpit, one leg
shoved into my crotch and his other arm, he sucks until he falls
asleep. He likes to take naps on his back, and he loves to play with
rubber bands or pistachio nuts. When I am ill, he "fusses" over me,
and won't leave my side. He is my constant companion. When he wants
to look outside, if the window is too high, he jumps up onto my
shoulders and looks out. He likes to ride on my shoulder as well,
which I didn't mind when he was a kitten, but a full-grown cat,
weighing about seven pounds is a little much. But that's okay, because
Harvey is a special friend, and I let him do what he wants.
Another thing about Harvey that I think makes him "special" is the way
he deals with fleas. He kicks a huge pile of cat litter out onto the
floor and rolls in it, and takes a "dust" bath. No scratching,
digging or any of that. A few rolls, and he's done. (He's a very
matter of fact cat.)
Harvey lives with us and my other orange tabby, Baby Cat, two shelter
cat females, Missy and Tara and our dog, Brandy, in Seattle,
Washington. All our animals are from nearby shelters. We do not allow
our cats outside because of traffic, and other cats, and though they
sometimes yearn to go out, we live in a three-story house with four
bedrooms so they have lots of places to wander and lay around in.
Harvey is special.
