This
is our Siamese Farah. We bought her last year, because our house
was very quiet after the death of Odie, our oldest cat, who was almost
fifteen years old. The other two cats that were left, were thirteen and eleven years
old then, so we decided to buy a kitten. I have always wanted another
Siamese, because we used to have one when I was young and I have just
always liked the way Siamese cats behave and the way in which they are
different from other breeds. A month after Farah came to live with us,
we decided she needed another cat her own age, because Farah was too
young and too playful for the older two cats, so we bought Maine Coon
Larena and it worked. Farah is only about three and a half months older
than Larena and together they make sure the house is never too quiet
again. Farah throws around her heavy toy-hamster, preferably close to
or against our bedroom door in the middle of the night. She also
brings it back to you when you throw the toy-hamster away for her. We
like to take lots of pictures of our cats (now five of them, because I
had to bring home a big red male called "Peter" from the animal
shelter where I work as a volunteer every Sunday morning and my
husband always wanted a red male cat) and Farah always starts to
"bleat" when I take out the camera. I guess because she has very blue
eyes, which are maybe very sensitive for the bright camera flash. We
can never take a good picture of her when there is no daylight,
because her eyes will then always be red in the picture, even when I
use the red-eye-reduction-button on the camera.
Farah is, as a true Siamese, very talkative and also makes herself
heard when we tell her to get off of the work top in the kitchen. She
will be obedient then, but will "bleat" as she walks away. My husband
thought Farah was getting too cold in the winter, because Siamese have
very short hair, so he bought her a little sweater, almost the
smallest dog-sweater available in the pet shop. She let him put it on
her, but could not walk wearing it and the other cats did not
understand what got into the house, so Farah has only worn her sweater
about three times so far. Our cats have
their own website,
which is still is Dutch only, but the English version will become available soon.
