Sonsy, the Cat of the Day
Name: Sonsy
Age: Eight weeks old
Gender: Female
Kind: American Short Hair
Home: South Carolina, USA

This is Sonsy. Her name (SAHN-see) is Scottish for health, and it seemed to be a name she needed. She and her eight tiny siblings were found wandering a highway, their wee tender paws burned from the sizzling pavement.

A friend of a friend of a friend was the finder and took them all to the vet, but they were too young even for first shots. She set about to find them all homes, and I went to get one. Looking at the litter, I immediately regretted my commitment as they were the ugliest bunch of kittens I'd ever seen! I picked Sonsy as she has a really cute left ear covered with "leopard spot" fur, and I was desperately looking for some redeeming quality in any of them. On the hour-long ride home, she never took her eyes off me except to take a quick cat-nap. After having her with me about two hours, I realized that her heart and her nature are so very beautiful; now when I look at her, all I see is beauty. She slept on my chest all night the first night, and washes my face for me each night when we crawl into bed. Tiny ball of harlequined fur that she is, she is spunky and loving and curious and inimitable and loyal and very brave. What an absolute love! How can anything so tiny take up such a large space in my heart?

She is only about eight weeks old, and already knows her name. I've bought her toys, but balled up paper balls, milk jug top rings, and my fingers are her favorite toys. She sits up and bats my hands with her now-healthy paws. Even as I write this, she is chasing the cursor on the screen... she may be the first feline touch-screen troubleshooter! I am a total proponent of adopting cats and dogs that need good homes... every pet I've have in the last 30 years has been in desperate need, and they never forget who rescued them. Sonsy is filling a void left by another wonderful cat with whom I had 15 lovely, wonderful years. Sonsy is the Cat of My Heart!
