I
was driving to work unusually late one morning along a busy Houston
street, when I saw a little kitten sitting on the curb. When I stopped
to pick him up, I realized he was hurt badly and had likely just been
hit by a car. I rushed him to my vet, which was fortunately close. His
jaw and right front leg were broken, but he had no other internal or
head injuries. They did surgery to wire the jaw and pin the femur. The
leg fracture was the worst my vet had ever seen - she compared the
procedure to "realigning two toothpicks." The doctors all fell in love
with him and lauded his "incredibly strong will to live." Oscar came
home in a little green cast. He has now had the pin removed, and the
jaw is completely back to normal. He'll require some physical therapy,
but his leg will be almost as good as new. He is a breathtaking
"target" tabby and, despite the trauma he experienced early in life,
is the sweetest, most loving little creature I have ever encountered.
