Nightshade
is incredibly beautiful, sweet, adorable & spoiled. She can
even fly! Always there when you need her. Comes when you call her (and
even when you don't). My shadow follows me everywhere! Did I mention
she even "talks"?
Nightshade is very special. In 1995, when I was only 10, my cat Nikki
was killed by a passing car. A few months later my mom got Nightshade
to fill the void that was left. And fill it, Nightshade has done well.
She was only 6 weeks old when we got her and fit in the palm of our
hand. Even then she knew she was going to rule our household. She
knows exactly how to look cute so she can get her way. Having my mom
tell her countless times a day that she is so cute, lovable and
adorable, did not help her ego. Her ego grew faster than she was. She
got so spoiled rotten, she thinks the world revolves around her, and
she lets us know that every minute of the day.
She doesn't play much with toys - unless breaking dishes by sliding
them off kitchen counters is considered playing with toys. Since she
is so used to being entertained and pampered, when we go about our
daily business, she follows us around. Faucets, bathtubs and showers
have a particular interest to her. She has tried, on occasion, to jump
into a bathtub filled with water. Grooming and cleaning is one of her
favorite activities. Usually someone else will become involved with
it. When she wants to be cleaned, she'll walk up to one of the others,
bow her head and shove it in their face. And she'll keep doing so,
until they lick her head. Her other favorite activities is being
played with. She loves it when we wrestle with her and she can kick
and bite. We throw in a catnip toy, so when she gets carries away,
she'll bite that instead of biting off our fingers. She also likes to
run through the house and is quite agile, flying over and under
furniture. She usually ends up bouncing, literally, off the walls. She
also likes to sit behind doors and paw at unsuspecting passers by, or
sit behind the room dividers and paw through the gaps in the material
or underneath them. When she gets excited, her eyes will turn all
black. She purrs just about all day long. And she'll purr so loud,
she sounds like a jet engine.
She takes her catnaps in the most unusual places, usually dark places.
She knows how to open doors, if they are not latched, so she often
lets herself into closets and such. And since she is all black, we can
never find her. She'll often gets locked in, and when we find her,
she'll talk up a storm as loud as she can. I wish I could understand
what she's saying, but I think I can get the gist of it. This past
April, she turned six. But she'll always be our slinky baby.
