Pinto
came into our lives one late summer day when he was about one
year old. He was a stray; tired and hungry and more than a little
dirty. My folks didn't want him in the house, so I waited until they
went on vacation, took him to the vet to get cleaned up, vaccinated
and neutered. By the time my folks came home, Pinto had already moved
into the house, and he's been there ever since. Pinto's friendly
disposition won them over almost immediately.
Pinto is a very good natured fellow most of the time, but then
everyone has their moments. As a result, he has received some other
names along the way; Stinker, Finstah, the cat! One of his favorite
things (as with all cats) is to sit on the newspaper when you're
trying to read it. If you try to read around him, he will lay down
and stretch out to get as much coverage as he can.
Pinto is very special to us. He's very intuitive; he always seems to
know when someone in the family is in trouble, and he's helped us
through some hard times. When my father was sick with cancer, Pinto
would very carefully climb onto his bed and lay quietly next to him as
if to say, "I'm here for you." He does the same for me and my mother
whenever we are feeling poorly. I think Pinto must have been a nurse
in a former life.
Pinto has moved with us from Long Island, NY to Windham, ME and
adjusted from being an indoor/outdoor cat to strictly indoor. I know
he misses rolling in the grass and climbing trees, but Maine has too
many other critters out there who would love a kitty snack. Walking
on a leash is a new trick that this old cat does not want to learn,
but that's the only way he's going to get outside. Pinto has been
with us for fourteen years now, and he's still going strong. Mom and I love
him dearly.
