Mittens
is six years old and is still playful. She started life as the
runt of her litter in Ellensburg, Washington before she joined my home
and another cat. After two years she made the move (under protest) to
Juneau, Alaska. She got her name from her four white paws. She is very
mellow - nothing seems to bother her. When I am on my computer, she
comes up and meows at me so very plaintively, wanting attention. I call
her my pat-pat girl 'cause she puts one paw on my leg and with the other
paw pat-pat-pats my arm, looking up at me with her oh so cute face. But
it doesn't mean she wants to be picked up 'cause she doesn't like to be
held, she just wants you to pet her or talk to her. She has to be near
where I am or at least be able to see me most of the time. When I am
lying in bed, reading a book, she decides that is a good time to try for
some attention by squeezing her little face in under my arm between the
book and my arm and then wriggling her face in as far as possible around
the corner of the book so I have no choice but to either pet her or at
least look at her. I tell her she is a pest but a cute, loveable pest.
Now I'm considering adopting a kitten to keep her company but we don't
have many kittens up here and I can't afford the high prices at the pet
shop or the Humane Society as I live on disability. One of the attached
pictures shows Mittens balancing on the top of the back of my computer
chair - a favorite position for her - she looks so silly sometimes up on
there.
