Bailey
is our ten-week old Siamese kitten who has come to live with us
in our Rochester, New Hampshire home. Aaahhh - perhaps I should
clarify that a bit - he has consented to allow us to continue residing
here with him providing the ample supply of toys and rotisserie
chicken never runs out (those of you who own or have owned a Siamese
know exactly what I'm talking about!). Here he is pictured on his
"throne" adorned with the Crown Jewels (befitting of his Royal Majesty
- "Bailey I (and only), Crown Prince of All and Everything") where he
may survey his kingdom and his loyal "subjects" (yes, that's us...!).
The idea of having a Siamese kitten was so appealing to us - we wanted
a cat that would interact with us and become a full member of our
family. Our children are grown and gone now so it's just the two of us
- a Siamese cat sounded ideal. What we didn't expect was the effect
it would have on our lives - we've both aged thirty years...! We now walk
with a sort of shuffle-slide step, never picking our feet off the
floor... because you never know when a little furball is going to
come racing between your feet or attacking your shoes from a blind
side... we don't want to step on any tender little paws! Our posture
is stooped from having a kitten perched on our shoulders. So we
shuffle along like members of a chain gang with our feet manacled
(that's probably more apt than I care to think about!), bent at the
waist like two arthritic octogenarians. But all this is truly just an
amusing aside... Bailey has brought such joy and love to our home and
is exactly what we imagined and hoped him to be. His antics are a
ceaseless source of hilarity to us, and when play time is over and he's
stretched across your lap, looking up with you with those half-closed
sleepy eyes, purring his little heart out - what could be better than
this? Thank you, our little guy... we only hope we can return to
you what you so lovingly give to us...every day.
