Jebeker
is the youngest of our three cats. When she turned up
under our house a year ago, as a tiny feral kitten of maybe eight
weeks old, the veterinarian wasn't sure she would survive. But
she has grown up into a healthy, 14+ pound bundle of impish
cuteness. She is a little spooky around strangers and isn't much
fond of sitting on laps or being petted, which we attribute to
her feral roots. But she loves to be brushed, and will jump up
to where we keep the brushes, crying piteously until someone
obliges. She also loves to sleep flattened out on the back of
the sofa, especially if her people are nearby.
Jebeker is quite a talker, and has a wide variety of
vocalizations for all sorts of different situations. She
chirrups if there is a bug she can't reach, cries to ask for
brushing, and makes a sound like a bark when her curiosity gets
her stuck in a cabinet. She even has a special kind of meow for
her morning routine. She waits patiently at the head of the hall
for her human dad to make a move toward the kitchen. This is her
cue to dart into the kitchen, meowing as she goes, making a
beeline for her food-- where she waits for him and doesn't begin
eating until he arrives. She has had access to the food the
whole night, since no part of the house is closed off to our
kitties. Maybe she wants to have breakfast with Daddy? We
didn't think we wanted a third cat, but we're so very happy that
Jebeker found us.
