Mistie, the Cat of the Day
Name: Mistie
Age: Six years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Maine Coon
Home: London, Ontario, Canada

This is my beautiful, gorgeous, stunningly perfect little girl, Mistie. She is six years old and unfailingly brightens the world on a daily basis for me, her 3/4 century old companion-owner. (Who said septugenary had to be lonely, I ask you?)

Mistie was a gift to me from my now-deceased wife, who spotted her at the animal shelter we took her from in 1996. She was a tiny, fluffy bundle, who appeared to possess a 'halo' of sorts encircling her entire body. Upon closer examination, it was fine, downy-soft, mist-colored hair through which light shone creating the origin of this halo effect, hence the name: Mistie!

I was seeking a lap cat, one who would cuddle and liked to be picked up, held and carried, and Mistie certainly seemed to fit the bill. She sat on my chest, purring loudly and permitted me to stroke her at length. I decided this was definitely the kitty for me! Little did I know at the time ... I'd been royally conned!!!

That day was the first, last and only time my little Mistie permitted me such privileges! She has always been aloof, choosing (very carefully) when, where and exactly how long, I am permitted any closeness to her, and always, always on her terms! She has in me an unabashed slave, and well she knows it, "ladying" it over me daily ... particularly when it comes to the state of her 'powder room' ... (ahem).

Mistie refuses to leave more than one 'deposit' at a time, and will proclaim loudly and at length for me to clear the first bit of debris prior to her making her next 'deposit', usually only minutes after her initial one. She is highly insistent about this, and gives me no peace until I comply! I admit to being a happy slave, though, for Mistie brings great joy, laughter, love and comfort to me each day, especially with her 'love bites', which is her method of expressing her affection for me. I feel lucky to have her sharing this part of my life's journey with me.
