I
adopted Don Juan el Gato Magnifico y Hermoso Furball from our local
Humane Society about a year and a half ago, a few weeks after the
untimely death of my first cat, Cardamom. He's a big boy (fourteen pounds)
and has the most gorgeous celadon green eyes and variegated fur. (Even
his whiskers are ticked!) He loves to give kisses, play with his
"teaser" toys, watch birds and snuggle. Since I brought Don Juan home,
my life has gone through a lot of changes, with my share of trouble, but
through it all he's been a wonderful, loving friend. He takes such good
care of me! He checks the closet and cupboards for terrorists, lies
down on the newspaper (so I won't read anything upsetting), shreds the
bills (so I won't have to pay them) and hops into my lap at every
opportunity to remind me of what's really important -- him! When I go to
bed, or even just lie down for a nap, he'll hop on to keep me company.
In return, I play with him at every opportunity and make sure to have
his favorite treats on hand. If he's a really good boy, I'll let him
lick a bit of cheddar cheese or salmon bagel spread off my fingers. I
tell Don Juan that he's the very best cat. And as far as I'm concerned,
he just is.
