I
adopted Kenny from the local animal shelter two years ago. He was such
a cute kitten, I was surprised someone hadn't already snatched him up.
Everyone says that pets are good therapy and they are 100% correct. I
was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis two months prior to his adoption.
Those are words that no one wants to hear especially when you know
nothing about it. I had to be off of work for six weeks and during that
time all I did was read about MS and got really depressed. When Kenny
came along, my focus turned to him.
I have trained my little guy to play fetch, sit up for treats, give
kisses, etc. The funniest thing that he does is he just decided one day
to sit at the dinner table when my husband and I were about to eat
dinner. He sat in his chair and looked at us like "where's my food". We
put his food on the table and with his paw he would pick up piece by
piece and it eat. He does this every day now, I guess that's his way of
saying he's part of the family. He's also not a cat that likes to be on
his own. Everywhere I go, he goes. When I go to leave for work now he
runs in front of the door and tries to block it so I can't get out. He
does this to my husband and sometimes it takes him ten minutes to get out
the door. His "daddy" is afraid that he will go out because he is
strictly an indoor cat. If we go away, I have to take him to my parents
home or someone has to stay at our house to keep him company.
I'm allergic to cats and from the beginning we bathed him once every two
weeks. He loves it now because when he is being shampooed it's like a
massage to him and for me I don't have the allergy problems. I don't
know what I would do without my fur baby, he's family and he knows it.
Two years have passed since we adopted him and I have to say that it's
the best thing I could have done.
